Dokkarissa seurataan Elizabethin ja tyttöjen elämää. Itseä vähän harmitti, ettei sanallakaan kerrottu, kuka mahdollistaa heidän työnsä ja tyttöjen koulunkäynnin, koska siten oltaisiin ehkä voitu saada heille lisää tukijoita. Elizabeth kysyi hiljattain, olisiko mitenkään mahdollista saada hieman ekstra rahaa, sillä hän ei tiedä miten selviää joulunvietosta paenneiden tyttöjen kanssa. Me ei pystytä heille tähän hätään lähettämään joululahjoja tai muita jouluasioita, mutta voisimme kyllä lähettää heille hieman joulurahaa, mitä olet mieltä? Äänestää saa nettipankin välityksellä :)

Elizabeth on ollut todella aktiivinen viime aikoina ja on lähettänyt paljonkin kuvia touhuistaan. Palaan niihin kuitenkin seuraavassa postissa, sillä sain myös viestiä Bezuneshilta Etiopiasta. Etiopian hallitus on julistanut Etiopiaan poikkeustilan sisäisten levottomuuksien takia ja poikkeustilaan kuuluu myös koko maan nettiyhteyksien sulkeminen. Tästä syystä olin todella iloinen kun sain Bezuneshilta sähköpostia ja kuulin, että heillä menee hyvin.

Ennen kuin copypastaan tähän uusimman raporttinsa, haluan jakaa Bezuneshin uutiset: Hänellä on kolmannen lapsensa laskettu aika marraskuun lopussa! Bezuneshille synnytykset ovat olleet todella vaikeita, sillä hänet on ympärileikattu pahimmalla mahdollisella tavalla. Hänelle synnytykset ovat kirjaimellisesti elämän ja kuoleman rajatilaa, joten hän pyysi meitä muistamaan heidän perhettään.

Topic: How can we become free from the bondage of FGM?

Hi dear, we have been teaching on the title “How can we become free from the bondge of FGM?”. The teaching place was in Damboya town in Kale Hiwot Church. We invited key persons from more than 28 churches and the amount of them are 40 women. Our teaching addressed the definition of FGM, how it affects the life of women, what is the solution and the response of the learners.

Definition of FGM

The world health organization (WHO) defines FGM as “all producers involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs, whether for culture or other non-therapeutic reasons.” It is considered as part of a group of traditional practice of female sex organ. Its literal meaning is “to cut off an important part of human genital organ involving the whole part of the external genital organ of female.” It is one of widely practiced traditions that have been damaging on the health of women and young girls in Ethiopia and other countries. It is deep- rooted practice as the value of FGM practicing society. 

How does it affect the lives of women? 

It affects the women’s life in their marriage at the time of sex and when they give the birth. Also they are not happy in their marriage living because they have headache and other pain and they live within suffering. In our society women are living within many kind of burdens and FGM is only one part.  

The solution how to become free from this burden 

We discussed the texts John 8:31-32 and Galatians 5:1-6, where it says you are free from any kind of bondage through the work of Jesus Christ what He done for us on the cross. So it is not necessary about our salvation. So we ask the listeners, why are we doing this kind of sin by abolishing the commandment of God’s word? What we do without God’s word is a sin on our savior. According to the word of God FGM is not necessary for women and not even men. As Christian community we must stop this kind of bad traditional practice from our girls. 

The response of our learners

The learners were very interested in our teaching and they give their response positively: 

- As Christians we will try to stop this kind of practice from our daughters because without knowledge we killed them for a long time. Now we get the understanding about FGM and how it affects our life.

And then we conclude our teaching by saying yes we are Christian, so we must live according to the word of God. Also we are committed to live as Christian in this world. God ask us one day what we did with our life.
